Bookends  program

The Maholnap Foundation organizes its unique in kind donation program since 2004 for local grass-root initiatives to support their cultural, educational activities for disadvantaged target groups. The expected result of the donations was to grow the existing stock of books into a small library, and the granted books inspire the organizations to widen their community reading activities. The unique initiative received significant attention from both donor publishers and applying civil organizations.

In 2006 Maholnap Foundation granted book donations collected from 47publishing companies to 53 non-profit organizations supporting disadvantaged target groups by way of an open call for proposals. The donated books formed a wide thematic variety from fiction, literature, children’s books, to non-fiction, science and student’s book that made possible for children, marginal social groups, Romany communities, and challenged people’s organizations to be supported.

Company charity - in a different way

A unique initiation was accomplished in November 2005 in Kazincbarcika, in Don Bosco vocational school operated by the Salez Order. The school has fulfilled gap-filling work in the region for several years: it trains and educates young people mostly over 16 years of age who otherwise remain out of state educational institutions. Training them means elementary, vocational as well as secondary education ending with a final exam. The endangered kids mostly of Romani origin struggling with social problems come from all over the coutry to Don Bosco so that they can start their adult lives with new chances and opportunities.
The school operates with a spacious block of buildings equipped with a gymnasium. For regular caretaking the Foundation raises the necessary funds out of own resources. This time, however, the school obtained not only funding with the help of Maholnap Foundation but also volunteer work thanks to the keen employees of Unilever Hungary Ltd. The action was unique because students of the school, who poved to be excellent representatives of their professions, cooperated with the company employees to accomplish the objectives of the day.
The ultimate objective of the project was to renovate the gymnasium, the adjacent foyer and changing rooms.

and after the work

The company again assumed the material costs of the work and it donated a body-building machine for the students for leisure purposes. The students and the volunteers, beyond the smooth and successful collaboration, had an honestly good time during the day of the project, which will for sure be marked in the history of Don Bosco.
